I missed the point…

Well I missed the point again.  I must say that for some of the season of Advent, I kept my eyes on the point (the birth of Christ).  I celebrated Advent with my children more deeply than ever before although there were times that I allowed the hustle and bustle of commitments to divert my focus from the point.  Well the Lord got me out of bed early this morning (for those of you who know me, you know that that is more of a miracle than that sounds) to wake me up to the fact that over the last week or so I had allowed myself to miss the point.  Over that time I had let go of the things that help me to keep my focus on Christ and the Blessed Mother – daily Rosary, daily mass (a couple of times a week) and prayer in general.  I got so caught up in present lists, eating Christmas treats (I don’t even want to look at the scale!!!), getting some extra sleep, and general Christmas preparations that I forgot why I was doing all this Christmas stuff.  Actually my wake-up call began last night when I looked at the beautiful Christmas photos on Elizabeth Foss’ blog (they were of her family at church rather than opening presents) and read about the Holy Eucharist on Leticia’s blog.  I thank God for the wake up call, that He doesn’t give up on me, and that it is not too late to turn my gaze to the Nativity and to Christ again.  I praise God for this second chance!!!

  • Dear Heather,
Isn’t it wonderful that Christmas, for Catholics, is a season and not a day? I think you got the point and there’s plenty of time to celebrate it. God’s blessings to you this Christmas season!

  • I get my best insprirations from you, my fellow Catholic bloggers, note that my post on the Eucharist came from another blogger! That’s the meaning of Catholic community, one beggar telling another beggar where the bread is!!

  • I agree with Elizabeth, Christmas is a season and not just a day. And the Holy Infant gave you a great gift.

  • Thank you ladies for your loving words. I feel so much better now that I have my eyes focused on the right place. As you said, Christmas is a season and it’s not too late!!!

  • It is all too easy to get distracted from our goal, and I have you and your blog to thank for getting back on track! Merry Christmas to you and yours-
