Lovely Lily Puts On A Show – No Laugh Track Needed

Img_1304 Img_1305a In a day that found me having lunch out with an elderly friend and my parents, cleaning off my desk (thanks to Elizabeth & Rebecca for the reminder to get off the computer and work on my messy house), reading with my eldest son, and registering my eldest son’s soccer team for the spring season, my six year old Lily decided to plan a little show.  After making tickets and enlisting the help of my parents who are visiting, she spent much of the afternoon planning the content.  So after dinner, we retired to the family room and prepared to be entertained.

She began the show with a partial re-enactment of the nativity with my father as Joseph, herself as Mary and my mother as the innkeeper.  Next she asked my parents to sing a song using a "song sheet" she provided.  This is where the laughter began.  The tears literally streamed down my father’s face as he and my mother attempted to sing a song with no tune and a song sheet that consisted of a list of random words that my daughter knows how to write.  It is one thing to come up with a tune to go with lyrics when you are singing on your own, it is quite another to do so as a duet.  We were all rolling with laughter as we reassured Lily that our laughter was joyful and not mocking.  The show was ended with a rousing chorus of "Joy to the World".  And Lily surely brought joy to my world tonight.

It’s amazing how the Lord can give you what you need even if it isn’t what you want.  I wanted to collapse on the couch as I am nursing the beginnings of a cold and PMS.  However what I needed was to laugh.
