Boy, Did I have a Bawl!!!

Littlematchgirlbook_ Today as part of our morning family time we read a wonderful book called The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen.  Boy, did I have a good cry over this beautiful book.  Thankfully my eldest daughter Hope(14) was reading the book out loud to us (as I had 2 year old Peter on my lap) or I don’t know whether I would have been able to finish the book.  My six year old Lily tried to sweetly reassure me that it was only a story.  This gave me an opportunity to remind them that there are many people, young and old, who are cold, hungry and homeless on the streets every day.  This is something we don’t really see first hand here in suburbia.  We live in such abundance.  (In fact, I have been lamenting about tripping over all the abundance in our home - but that’s another post!!!)  It also led to a discussion (as suggested in Catholic Mosaic) about the Corporal Works of Mercy.  This is not new to my children, but they came alive in light of this terrific book.
