Warning: Parenting is a Humbling Experience!!!

Before I had my children, I was one of those arrogant teachers who thought she knew exactly what to do with children and would gladly offer you advice to help with your out of control kiddies.  Well 15 year of parenting has knocked me down to size to say the least.  My favorite saying is “Parenting is a humbling experience!!!”  I have felt that Big “L” come up on my forehead to signify “Loser” many times!!!

So what have I learned:

1- That good parenting is a lot easier said than done.  It’s a selfless job with lots of rewards but very few pats on the back.  As a Christian, I am called to sacrificial love and service to others.  There is no better training ground than being a parent!!!

2- Consistency is key to whatever you are trying to teach your children – Algebra or table manners.

3- Washable markers and paints WILL stain clothing AND Spray ‘N Wash stain stick is a mother’s best friend.

4- Nothing lowers my blood pressure better than hugs from my children.  Nothing raises my blood pressure more than having to repeatedly tell my children to “Knock it off!!!” ;o)

5- You need to like your children (especially your teenagers) as well as love them.

6- That nothing I can accomplish individually, is more important that what I accomplish with my children.  They are my job, my calling, my vocation… Second only to my vocation as a helpmeet.
