Bizarre!!!

Yesterday on the way to the hospital to visit our new nephew, Aidan, my husband and I decided to stop at the cemetery to visit our daughter Mary’s grave. My in-laws had put an angel statue on it recently and I wanted to check it out. While we were standing at her grave, my Len looked around and commented that we had a new neighbor (in other words, there was a fresh unmarked grave next to Mary’s plot). Then we looked at each other and realized that our “new neighbor” was buried in our own plot. When we purchased Mary’s plot, there were no family plots available so we purchased a single grave for Mary and a double plot next to it for Len and I. We just stared at each other wondering what plausible explanation we could come up with to explain away a rectangular shaped dirt patch where grass used to be. Our only possible explanation that won’t involve heart ache for either us or another family, is that they started to dig there and realized their mistake before burying someone there.

Believe me we know that when we die it really won’t matter to us where we are buried as long as we are in heaven. However, for right now this bizarre turn of events has us a little uneasy. So guess where I’ll be first thing Monday morning. You guessed it – at the office at the cemetery, deed in hand!!! I’ll let you know on Monday what the outcome is. This will put the ministry of the smile to the test!!! :o )

9/24/07 While this has all been unsettling, it has led to a number of jokes in our house. This morning’s came from our daughter, Hope. As if out the story “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, she said, “Somebody’s been buried in my plot!!! And he’s still there!!!” Well you have to laugh!!!
