Happy Birthday Mom and Dad!!!

Today my wonderful mother joined the seventies club (shush…don’t tell the neighbors!!!) and my terrific father turned 71 several weeks ago. They really are great people and I don’t think I thank them enough for all they have done for me and continue to do for me.

First and foremost, they raised me with a love of the Lord Jesus Christ. They were and are a living example of people who love God and others. Church was an important part of my childhood. And in spite of all I accused them of doing wrong as they raised my sister and I (don’t you love those adolescent years), both my sister and I love the Lord and the church. So they must have done something right because they are 2 for 2!!! How many people can say that!!!

They are devoted grandparents, making many extra trips from Vermont and Florida to share the lives of their grandchildren. They are ADORED by my children!!! Even my two year old’s eyes light up when he hears that Grammy and Papa are coming for a visit.

They are supportive parents, often telling me what a wonderful mother I am. Yes, I know that they are biased but those words of affirmation mean a lot to me especially given the “off the beaten path” choices I have made. When we started to homeschool nine years ago, they were skeptical but supportive. Now there are no bigger cheerleaders for our homeschooling efforts.

And finally they were/are a living example of a happy marriage. They truly love and support one another. They never lost sight of the need to make each other a priority in the busy life of their family. This dedication to each other has inspired me in my own marriage.

So won’t you say a prayer for my parents today for continued good health and many more years of together.
