Three Changes For A Healthier Us

I have been reading many posts lately about not sacrificing nutrition in the name of frugality.  As I have mentioned before, my family has never eaten better since I undertook the task of bringing our grocery expenses under control.  Menu planning and cooking from scratch are the solid foundation on which my savings have been built - NOT on [...]

Taming My Tech Habits

I am continuing my journey through How Did I Get So Busy? by Valorie Burton.  She says that “if you are going to overcome busyness and embrace a self-care lifestyle, you must gain control of your technology habits now.”  Well this is definitely an area in which I struggle.

So reluctantly, I have put most of my yahoo [...]

“That’s Harsh!!!”

Today I had a laugh at the supermarket and it wasn’t over the ridiculous price of milk or eggs.  I was picking up the loss leader sale items (about a dozen) at a local store.   As the nice young man (yes, I know that makes me sound so old to call an eighteen year old boy, a “nice young man”) scanned [...]

Heather, You’re A St. Bernard

No bones about it, you’re a dedicated, trustworthy St. Bernard. Loyal and good-hearted, you’re as reliable as they come. Your naturally protective personality is reflected in the way you treat people close to you. Sheltering your nearest and dearest from harm (or bad news, for that matter) is high on your priority list. [...]

Frugal Fridays: My Inexpensive All-Purpose Cleaner

White vinegar mixed with water is my favorite all-purpose cleaner.  I keep a spray bottle of it under my kitchen sink and in each of my bathrooms.  We use it to spray and wipe the counters and tabletop in the kitchen.  It is used daily by the children during chores to wiped down the bathroom counters, sinks and [...]

Our First Experience With Restaurant.com

I happened upon Restaurant.com as I was browsing the internet just before Christmas.  The site offers gift certificates for local restaurants at significantly reduced prices.  As my husband and I usually go out to dinner once a week for “date night”, I decided to give it a try.  I bought a $25 gift certificate for $10 [...]

Our New Cleaning Routine

For the last fifteen months or so, I have enjoyed the great privilege of having most of my house cleaned every other week by a wonderful cleaning lady.  The decision to get someone to clean my home was born out of desperation.  I was completely overwhelmed with an almost two year old who was perpetually ripping apart [...]
