Frugal Fridays: Warm Feet, Warm Body

frugalfridays.jpg

With the price of fuel oil being so out of sight this winter, I have been keeping the thermostat set pretty low: 60 at night and 64-65 during the day.  I have found several strategies for keeping warm – a hot cup of tea, keeping busy (not sitting too long), and a comfy sweater.  Today, I’d like to talk about my favorite way to stay warm.

Well you may have heard the expression, “Cold hands, warm heart.”  Well I have a new one: “Warm feet, warm body.”  A pair of wool socks and a cozy pair of slippers go a long way in staying warm.  Growing up, I always heard that people lose most of their body heat through their head and feet.  This was my mother’s way of getting me to wear my hat.  Well now that I’m the mom, my advice to you is to warm your body by warming your feet!!!

  • Very good advice Heather. And did you know that wears socks to bed promotes deeper, healthier sleep? Work for me!

Those are great ways to stay warm, long sleeves or a short sleeve shirt with a long sleeve sweater or jacket over top really warms you up too!

I have to agree with the feet for sure. When I wear a thinner pair of socks to work–my feet get really cold and then I’m cold for most of the day. Then I can’t wait to get home and put warm socks on and my slippers. Takes alittle while–but then I warm up–usually under a blanket in front of the TV too!

  • Sue:
You’re right!!! A warm blanket doesn’t hurt either!!!

  • Martha:
We’ve been wearing lots of layers here!!!
I’ve dropped the thermostat a couple more degrees and those extra layers are a necessity!!!

  • Michele:
At my house, socks at bedtime are a necessity for getting to sleep.
I drop it to 60 and it can be mighty cold by the time I crawl into bed!!!
    Thanks for commenting.
