For the last fifteen months or so, I have enjoyed the great privilege of having most of my house cleaned every other week by a wonderful cleaning lady. The decision to get someone to clean my home was born out of desperation. I was completely overwhelmed with an almost two year old who was perpetually ripping apart my house.
Well with the start of a new year, I decided it was time to take back this job. In fact I felt that God was calling me to take this job back just as I felt that he had allowed me the privilege of a house cleaner back then by providing a raise for my husband just at the time we were wrestling with that decision.
In the past when I had tried to develop a system for cleaning, it would usually crash and burn very quickly. Splitting the cleaning up into daily tasks just didn’t work for us. This time I decided that my three oldest children and I will clean our house on Saturday morning, every other week. And this past Saturday was our first official cleaning day.
So Friday evening we picked up the house just like we did before our cleaning lady use to come. On Saturday morning I was sure to start with the bathrooms so that we would be doing the most difficult tasks first. Scrubbing toilets, tubs, and showers isn’t high on anyone’s list, is it? Then when everyone started grumbling about 1/2 way through, I could honestly say that we were headed onto the easier jobs!!!
I must admit that none of us were jumping for joy to begin this new routine but we are very pleased with the results. There is definitely a feeling of accomplishment and it only took us 2 1/2 hours. God is indeed good!!!

I like this idea of yours. If it worked with a cleaning lady, why not with the family? I really like the bit about doing the most difficult tasks first. Very smart.
