White vinegar mixed with water is my favorite all-purpose cleaner. I keep a spray bottle of it under my kitchen sink and in each of my bathrooms. We use it to spray and wipe the counters and tabletop in the kitchen. It is used daily by the children during chores to wiped down the bathroom counters, sinks and mirrors.
Another added bonus is the health benefits. A few years ago when one of my sons was diagnosed with a mild case of asthma, his doctor was glad to hear that we use this wonderful cleaner because the typical cleaners are harmful to an asthmatic.
Saturday during our family cleaning time (now that’s the subject of another post), I used the vinegar and water spray to clean walls, wood stairs, bathroom tile, bathtubs, showers, etc. I was amazed how well it performed on my shower stall. (However I am currently on the lookout for a healthy spray to deal with discolored caulk).
And best of all, I can buy a gallon at Costco for only a few dollars (I don’t remember the exact price because it lasted so long!!!)
P.S. While searching for a picture of vinegar, I happened upon a post called, “66 Uses for Vinegar”. Hope you enjoy it!!!

I love to use vinegar as well. Thanks for the link to the 66 Uses for Vinegar. It has been most enlightening. What ratio of vinegar to water do you use to wipe down the counters and the tabletop?

It’s not an exact science with me. I think that I probably use about 50/50 - definitely no more than 50% vinegar.

I am glad it works for you. The other cleaners are killing my hands. Yes, I know there are gloves but I don’t like them. ANyway, I have this thing about germs. Do you know if this cleans as well as disinfectants?

Chrissy:
I must admit that I’m not big on “Anti-bacterial” cleaners.
From what I’ve read, they kill the good bacteria with the bad.
I did a google search for “vinegar as disinfectant” and found this link:

Hope it helps to allay your fears.

DO you use the vinegar on wood floors? I tried to mop with it once and it didn’t dry well (left watery streaks sort of). Any clues?
How about on bathtubs?

Oh..I see you say you use on the tub.
As for discolored caulk….try a magic eraser…I use it on the grout in my shower

Jamie:
To be honest, we’ve been finishing up the dribs and drabs of old cleaners for cleaning the wood floors (my entire home has wood floors).
I’ll have to give the vinegar and water a try and let you know how I make out.
Blessings,
Heather
P.S. Thanks for the Magic Eraser idea!!!
