I find it really amazing how many of our usually timid bishops are starting to stand up and voice their convictions. This is a trying moment, but God will be victorious in the end.

Great post Heather. I'm crying with you... well I'm crying about other things and I add in the state of affairs right now and where we are headed. I keep thinking about our Lady of Akita or was it Fatima talking about fire coming down from Heaven as a chastisement and the living will envy the dead. Sorry, I know not too terribly cheery but shows we really need to keep up or start the prayers and penances bigtime.

God bless.

Where I work, most of the Catholics (who go to Mass every Sunday) voted for Obama. Makes you wonder: 1.) What is still being taught in the seminary, 2.) Would Obama have won if at least ¼ of the Catholic population had voted for the unborn?

Our HR department e-mailed the entire company (150 people) and told us we could all watch the big moment in the corporate training room today. Our HR director is a big Obama fan. She is a Catholic woman whose parish was pastored by Msgr. Brian McNamara, the director of priest personnel for DRVC. Msgr. Brian is considered by folks in the Chancery as VERY conservative. But I remember him criticizing me many years ago while visiting Joanne and I because I voiced concern about the bad translations that were being sowly worked into the propers and responses in the current form of the Novus Ordo. I’m sure Fr. Brian is no Obama supporter… but he would never balk at the bad theology which has official sanction in Rockville Centre because Msgr. Brian McNamara is a ‘team player’… and team players are never critical. And this is why so many conservative Catholics are afraid to question the praxis in their own diocese.

In speaking to one seminarian in our own seminary last year… I was told that “the hardest part of his Christology studies for him at Huntington was finding out that many of the miracles told in the gospels… never actually happened literally”!

There is a large gulf between ‘conservative’ and ‘orthodox’. Yesterday’s liberal priest is considered today’s conservative priest.

I remember a slogan Bill Clinton made for himself when he took the presidency. He kept repeating to himself ‘It’s the economy stupid’. In like manner… if we Catholics wish to take back the Church and conservatism… we need to begin repeating to ourselves ‘It’s the priesthood, stupid’.
