Lately my four year old Peter has taken up a new hobby – catalog coveting. With the Christmas season nearly upon us (at least for the retailers), he can be often found sitting in a chair “reading” a Lego or toy catalog uttering phrases akin to “Can you get me this for my birthday?” or “Can [...]
We participated in a WONDERFUL All Hallow’s Eve party with our Immaculate Heart of Mary homeschooling group on Saturday. It was truly a terrific afternoon celebrating the origins of the true Halloween. Our family had not celebrated this holiday for about 10 years. However, last year we were introduced to the [...]
While buying a new pair of sneakers at a local running store the other day, I saw a shirt that simply said, “Because I can..” I had to buy it because it perfectly describes why I run – because I can… It is something that I could never do even in my overweight youth [...]
In spite of pouring rain AND thunder and lightning, Lenny (13) and I competed in our first 5K race today. Mercifully, the rain stopped just as the race began. How’s that for answered prayers!!! Lenny placed 3rd in his age group with a time of 25:49 and I was thrilled with my time [...]
Today is Lily’s 9th birthday. We spent a wonderful day that started with Daddy’s “from scratch” pancakes and ended with a barbeque and ice cream cones. In between, she and I enjoyed some scrapbooking together. She rode bikes with her little brother, played Gobble with her older brother, and did some sewing with her big sister. [...]
Well I did it. Hope, Lenny and I ran in my first running race yesterday. We ran a mile and Lily did the 1/4 mile fun run.

Well I am posting this from beautiful Vermont. The children and I are visiting my parents at their home on Lake Dunmore. It was a beautiful day today and we had a great day down at the ”beach”. Some friends mentioned that they were going to go to the “jumping off rock” and invited us to [...]
Lily (left) competed in her first track meet in late May. Here she is with her good friend, Annie and their coach, Harry.
My dear sweet husband competed for the first time in a dog agility trial. He didn’t go in with great expectations but he and Tobey came out [...]
Last Thursday and Friday, we were privileged to spend two wonderful days in Pennsylvania with two blogger mom families. We (the children and I) headed out to Lancaster at 4:30 a.m. Only those who live on Long Island understand the need to beat the morning rush hour through NYC. :) At 7 [...]
That’s my new motto: “Perfectionism is the Death of Homeschooling!!!” What was my old motto you ask? I’d have to say it was, “Parenting is a humbling experience!!!” LOL
Over the last ten years I have read MANY, MANY books on homeschooling. Most of them have been helpful. Most of them have been inspiring. I usually [...]

St. Gertrude’s Prayer Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy divine son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
