Training Tuesday: Lily Makes Salad and Peter Makes a Mess

Well today is Tuesday so that means it’s “Training Tuesday” at our house.  Recently I added a job wheel (I read about it in the Complete Tightwad Gazette book I’ve been reading) to divvy up the dinner meal preparation tasks.  As I’ve mentioned before, I have done a good job training my two oldest children [...]

The Running To-Do List

I am reading a book called Confessions of an Organized Homemaker by Deniece Schofield.  I saw it on the sidebar of a blog but don’t remember which (sorry).  One of the organizational devises she recommends is a central calendar / planning book.  I rely on my calendar heavily [...]

Training Tuesday: Photos

Peter learning to wipe the table after lunch:

Step One: Get him away from his toys.

Step Two: Get a rag from the closet.

Step Three: Wipe the table that Mom has sprayed with vinegar and water spray.

Lily learning to set the table PROPERLY using a handy-dandy guide.

Training Tuesday: More Training Ideas

After contemplating training ideas for my littlest angels, I got to thinking that there are some things that the two oldest children and I could stand to learn as well.

Raising the Bar: Improving Our Finances in 2008

Today at Money Saving Mom, Crystal Paine encouraged us to get our finances in shape in 2008.  Well we are blessed with an income that meets our needs and many of our wants.  We have worked hard on being fiscally responsible, have very little outstanding debt (only our mortgage), and generally live below our means.  However, as Len [...]

Frugal Fridays: Warm Feet, Warm Body

With the price of fuel oil being so out of sight this winter, I have been keeping the thermostat set pretty low: 60 at night and 64-65 during the day.  I have found several strategies for keeping warm – a hot cup of tea, keeping busy (not sitting [...]

Christmas Sewing Projects

Here is a list of the projects I have been working on over the last couple of weeks:

A train mat for Peter (like Joann’s: http://tenkidsandadog.blogspot.com/2007/11/train-playmat.html)

A lap quilt for Peter

A skirt for Lily
Several winter skirts for me – One down, one to go!!!
A denim quilt for [...]

Frugal Friday: My Trusty Friend for Preserving Your Clothes

My perhaps most important laundry secret for saving your clothing from the garbage can is Spray and Wash stain stick.  I leave a stain stick in my top dresser drawer.  Every night, I “evaluate” the shirt I wore that day to see if it needs to be “stain sticked”.  It usually does because I always [...]

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 8

My bedroom was the object of today’s challenge at Biblical Womanhood.  This was another one of my hot-spots, particularly this time of year as I am doing a lot of sewing for Christmas.  We had a busy afternoon planned and I did not think I was going to get to this challenge today.  However, a [...]

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 7+

Yesterday, Crystal’s challenge included taking on one project on which I’ve been procrastinating and decluttering one area.  Well the first part was easy – decluttering my purse and entering all our receipts into Quicken.  The second was another story.  It was a two day job (Hence the reason for this late post).  I attacked the home office.  [...]
