Goodbye, Dear Friend

My much loved, much used Crockpot has cooked its final meal!!!  It owed me nothing as I bought it for $15 at Kohls at least five years ago!!!  Goodbye, dear friend!!!

My sweet son, Lenny, upon hearing that I was going to blog the demise of my Crockpot, uttered these words [...]

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 6

The focus of today’s challenge was the kitchen.  Clutter on my kitchen counters is a major struggle for me, a major “hot spot” as Flylady would say.  I didn’t get to as much as I would have liked.  The notch and the top of my refrigerator, among other things, are still in need of decluttering but [...]

Frugal Friday: Children and Broken Dishes

Around here, someone under the age of 18 always seems to be breaking a dish.  And we had gotten down to an insufficient number despite using Corelle (which are breakable in our home!!!).  I personally hate to eat off of plastic dishes.  Well I was lamenting to a friend recently about the my dish situation and wondering [...]

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 4

Today’s focus was the bathroom and maintenance of the other previous addressed rooms.  Well it’s an amazing thing – you actually have to be home to make your home into a haven.  LOL  We had a day of dental cleanings, a recheck at the pediatrician, Hope’s citizenship club meeting, grocery shopping, etc.  In fact I [...]

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 3

When I read that today’s challenge involved the laundry room, I thought, “Oh, this will be easy!!!”  Well I guess since my oldest daughter does most of the laundry, I didn’t realize the state of my laundry area / pantry.  So glad that Crystal picked this area today!!!

Making Your Home a Haven Challenge: Day 2

Well today’s challenge wasn’t too difficult as my living room wasn’t in too bad a condition.  It was mostly just putting away DVDs and straightening the “dog blankets” we keep on the furniture.  However an added benefit was that we found the top to the PB jar that went missing yesterday.  I wonder why I [...]

Crystal over at BiblicalWomanhood.com has started a “Making Your Home a Haven Challenge”, which is just what I needed.  I encourage you to check out her posts (Day 1 is December 3rd – but feel free to just jump in whenever you are reading this!!!).

Here are my before and after pictures for the [...]

Our Food Budget

Today at the library I picked up a copy of The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn.  I periodically take out books on frugality and simple living.  I never read these books cover to cover but am happy to glean a few hints/tips to incorporate into my life and budget.

Well as I lazily read the [...]

Money Saving Tips from Crystal Paine

Crystal Paine has a new blog called Money Saving Mom.  Her post called “Simple Tips for Living on Little” is very insightful and inspiring.  Through her course, Supermarket Savings, I have made great strides in reducing my grocery budget.  I had a budget of $180 a week to feed our family of six.  This sounds like a lot [...]

Lily’s Thanksgiving Skirt

I decided to make Lily another one of those cute ruffled skirts. This one is more sedate as it’s for Thanksgiving and has three ruffled sections instead of two. I don’t think it is as striking as the other but I still like it!!!

I think that for the next one I [...]
